MOTS-C 10mg

MOTS-C 10mg

$100.00

MOTS-C is one of the most fascinating peptides in longevity research — because it’s encoded by mitochondrial DNA, not nuclear DNA. Your mitochondria synthesise it as a stress signal, it translocates to the nucleus, and activates AMPK — the master energy sensor that drives fat burning, improves insulin sensitivity, and triggers mitochondrial biogenesis. It also declines with age. True North Peptides supplies MOTS-C at ≥99% purity in 10mg lyophilised vials. For research use only.

What Is MOTS-C?

MOTS-C (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA — not by your nuclear genome like almost every other peptide hormone. When mitochondria detect metabolic stress, MOTS-C is synthesised and translocates directly to the nucleus to regulate gene expression. It’s mitochondria talking to your DNA. That’s a communication pathway researchers are only just beginning to understand.

AMPK — The Master Energy Switch

MOTS-C activates AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) — the cellular sensor that kicks in when energy is low. AMPK activation triggers fat oxidation, improved glucose uptake, mitochondrial biogenesis, and anti-inflammatory signalling. It’s the same pathway activated by exercise and caloric restriction. MOTS-C activates it through the folate cycle — a distinct upstream mechanism that makes it a unique research tool separate from exercise-mimetics like AICAR.

Insulin Sensitivity and Metabolic Research

Rodent studies show MOTS-C improves glucose disposal and reduces insulin resistance in diet-induced obesity models — effects attributed to its AMPK activation in skeletal muscle. Circulating MOTS-C also rises in response to exercise in human studies, which has prompted significant interest in its role in exercise adaptation and metabolic health.

The Longevity Angle

MOTS-C levels decline with age — in both rodents and humans. Animal studies have examined MOTS-C repletion and its effects on lifespan and age-related metabolic decline. It sits at the intersection of mitochondrial biology, AMPK signalling, and longevity science in a way that no nuclear-encoded peptide can replicate.
